As federal regulations, rules, and norms change and shift, it is important for faculty, staff and students to keep well informed about federal guidelines around research and sponsored projects administration. CITI Training
Required Training Courses Accessible through CITI
UMass Boston CITI SSO (Log In Here)
UMass Boston utilizes Collaborative Institutional Training Initiative (CITI) courses for required trainings.
The required training for Research Security from CITI has been experiencing some navigational issues. CITI is aware of this and is actively working with NSF to improve user experience with this module. In the meantime, please see Research Security Training Navigation from CITI for navigational instructions.
How to Login and Use CITI:
- Use the UMass Boston CITI Single Sign-On (SSO) link above. Enter your campus-wide UMass Boston email and password.
- Please be sure that your CITI profile has your first name, last name, and UMass Boston email address (XXXX.XXXX@umb.edu) as your primary email address. Your CITI profile must have your UMass Boston email as your primary email address. This allows your CITI trainings taken through UMass Boston to display in Kuali.
- Under My Courses, select View Courses for University of Massachusetts Boston
- Scroll down to Learner Tools for University of Massachusetts Boston
- Select your required courses by completing the questions listed
- See, CITI Training Instructions for more details
Affiliating CITI Trainings Taken Through Other Institutions:
- Log into your CITI account using the SSO instructions above
- Click the Add Institutional Affiliation link below the Welcome message
- Search for your previous institution and add your completed courses

Award Expenditure Reporting - Training and Resources

Conflict of Interest
UMass Boston uses the CITI Program Conflict of Interest (COI) Basic course to satisfy training requirements associated with the U.S. Public Health Service (PHS) regulations on financial conflicts of interest. This course is required for key personnel who receive funding from a PHS agency, including the National Institutes of Health (NIH). Read more »
Export Control
Log in to CITI Program and take the Export Control course to get an introduction to export compliance, as well as the different roles and responsibilities key individuals and departments have across organizations that need to be aware of and adhere to export compliance regulations. Read more »
Responsible Conduct of Research
The National Institutes of Health (NIH), National Science Foundation (NSF), and U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) require certain categories of researchers to receive Responsible Conduct of Research (RCR) training. National Research Mentoring Network (NRMN)
Five institutions were awarded funds to develop a national network to provide evidence-based and culturally-aware mentorship, grantsmanship training and other professional development, networking opportunities, and resources to mentors and their trainees across the biomedical sciences.
