Biography

Dr. Kim is a Professor of Nursing at the University of Massachusetts Boston and a fellow of the American Academy of Nursing. She was born and raised in South Korea. She earned a bachelor’s degree in Nursing Science from Seoul National University in South Korea. She migrated to the US alone at age 28, earned her master’s and doctoral degrees at Rutgers, the State University of New Jersey, and did a 2-year postdoctoral training at the University of North Carolina.

Additional Information

She is nationally and internationally known for her expertise in tobacco research. She has developed several culturally tailored smoking cessation interventions for underserved populations such as Asian immigrants, people living with mental illness, and women living with HIV. Dr. Kim is also a board-certified clinical nurse specialist in adult psychiatric mental health. She currently conducts the project titled “Efficacy of an Asian Culture-Tailored (ACT) Lung Health Intervention on Lung Cancer Screening and Smoking Cessation in Asian Americans, which is funded by the UMB-DF/HCC Partnership.
