Understand and prepare to address the complexities of aging across diverse cultures.

The population is aging at an unprecedented rate, which creates a growing demand for professionals with knowledge and training in aging studies to understand and improve the well-being of older people. This program introduces you to the issues, questions, perspectives, needs, and contributions of older persons. In Aging Studies classes, you will gain a deep understanding of the physiological, psychological, social, and economic aspects of aging, and acquire research and practical skills critical to your professional development, including program planning and evaluation, policy analysis, geriatric assessment, and working with diverse populations. You will be prepared for leadership roles in aging services, policy, research, and advocacy, and cultivate cultural competence in interactions with older individuals, families, and communities. The majority of Aging Studies classes are offered online and at both midday and evening times, to offer maximum flexibility for students.

In this program, you will:

Develop a comprehensive understanding of aging processes, including social, cultural, economic, and health aspects, enabling you to critically analyze and address the needs, rights, and well-being of older adults.
Acquire research skills and interdisciplinary knowledge in gerontology, psychology, sociology, public health, and policy, equipping you to design and implement innovative programs, policies, and interventions that promote healthy aging and enhance the quality of life for older adults
Cultivate intercultural competence, empathy, and communication skills, preparing you to engage with diverse populations, collaborate with stakeholders, and advocate for age-friendly environments and inclusive practices at the global level

Career Possibilities

Coordinate and manage programs and services for older adults in government agencies, non-profit organizations, or community centers, addressing their social, health, and economic needs. Work with healthcare providers to develop and implement effective care plans. Or, conduct research on aging-related issues to contribute to evidence-based policy and practice in the field of gerontology. These are just a few of the possibilities.
