About Us
UMB-UR-BEST (or University Resources for Behavioral and Educational Skills Training) is aimed at increasing student wellness (graduate and undergraduate) and academic support at the University of Massachusetts Boston; prioritizing cultural awareness, systemic equity, and community access.
We are advanced Clinical Psychology doctoral students with a range of clinical and research experiences and guided by a culturally responsive and social justice-oriented approach to support services for UMass Boston. We offer services during the Fall and Spring semesters until the last day of classes. These include Academic & Personal Wellness Workshops, Academic, Health, and Wellness Coaching, Collaborative Offerings & Consultation, and Targeted Neuropsychological Assessments.
Over an academic year, we often have the honor of serving over 2,000 students. We are trained by and supported by Clinical faculty who have expertise in health promotion, stress management, developmental disorders, coping with racism and other forms of discrimination, anxiety and traumatic stress, and other topics relevant to students on our campus. We dedicate these resources to helping our students with the intersection of their academics and wellness in ways that recognize the whole person, including all of the complexities of their identities, cultural values, and aspirations.
Mission Statement
Our mission is to assist students and the campus community in creating a positive learning environment for the diverse student population at UMass Boston. We strive to promote student mental health, wellbeing, and academic success through a range of culturally sensitive and inclusive services. We are dedicated to helping our students with the intersection of their academics and wellness in ways that recognize the whole person, including all of the complexities of their identities, cultural values, and aspirations. This includes actively resisting systemic inequities, creating resources to increase access for marginalized students, and constantly reassessing the ways in which we and our services equitably meet the needs of our diverse campus community. Our focus is on wellness promotion and preventative services; however, we aspire to create proactive resources that help students thrive both personally and academically.
