Welcome to UHS General Medicine!
UHS General Medicine is UMass Boston's comprehensive health center staffed by board-certified healthcare providers specializing in college health.
At UHS, we address a wide range of health concerns, including:
- Infections, such as sore throats, colds, flu, urinary tract infections
- Injuries, such as sprains, wounds, concussions, lacerations
- Symptoms, such as abdominal pain, fatigue, cough, dizziness
- Chronic conditions, such as asthma, migraines, ADHD
- Skin issues, such as acne, rashes, bites
- Musculoskeletal issues, such as back pain, joint pain
- Procedures, such as ear irrigations, dressing changes, wart treatment
To ensure effective communication and high-quality care for all students, we utilize Language Line translation services during appointments. This service provides real-time translation in over 240 languages, allowing non-English speaking students to receive the medical attention they need comfortably and accurately.

Sexual & Reproductive Health Services
Comprehensive services include:
- Birth Control: Education, counseling, management, and various options available, including oral contraceptives, vaginal rings (NuvaRing), and shots (Depo-Provera). Referrals for implants (Nexplanon), intrauterine devices (IUDs), and diaphragms.
- Emergency Contraception: Counseling and prescriptions are available free of charge.
- HPV Vaccinations
- Menstrual-Related Concerns
- Pain Evaluations: Including pelvic pain and painful sex symptoms.
- Pregnancy Testing, Options Counseling, and Medication Abortion Referrals
- PrEP & PEP: HIV prevention medications and counseling.
- Vaginal Exams: Including Pap tests and follow-ups.
- Testing and Treatment: Chlamydia, Gonorrhea, Hepatitis B, HIV, HPV, Syphilis, and more.
Travelwell Services
We recommend making an appointment about 3 months before your trip! Some vaccines may take up to a month to complete. UHS will help you prepare for international travel with the following:
- Counseling and Education: Information and educational materials concerning health risks in destination countries.
- Travel Vaccines: Tailored recommendations and vaccinations based on destination and health history to prevent illness.
- Medication Evaluation: Depending on the destination, medications may be recommended to prevent relevant illnesses or symptoms while traveling.
*Note: As we strive to offer comprehensive care, unfortunately, there are services we cannot provide, including but not limited to the administration of allergy shots and allergy testing. We can assist with referrals to an allergist or check with your insurance. We recommend calling the front desk at (617) 287-5660 before scheduling an appointment to confirm the requested service(s) are available.

Travel Vaccines
UHS provides tailored recommendations and vaccinations based on destination and health history to prevent illness.
Please call (617) 287-5660 to confirm which travel vaccines we can provide or can order in time for your appointment.
Laboratory Services
Our Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments (CLIA)-approved laboratory partners with Quest Diagnostics as a reference laboratory to offer:
- In-House Tests: These include pregnancy, strep throat, flu, and COVID.
- External Lab Services: Coordination with Quest Diagnostics for specialized testing.
Dental Services
Beginning in the Fall 2023 semester, University Health Services launched a collaboration with FlossTime, a mobile dental provider. FlossTime clinicians come on-campus to provide dental cleanings, dental exams, mobile x-rays, Invisalign scanning, and teeth whitening to the UMass Boston community. Optometry Services
Beginning in Fall 2024 semester, University Health Services began collaborating with 20/20 Onsite, a mobile optometry provider. The UMass Boston community can conveniently access vision screenings, eye exams, and eyewear on campus. Visit the 20/20 Onsite page for more information.
UHS Freebies
Emergency Contraception
Safe and effective birth control you can use to prevent pregnancy up to 5 days after unprotected intercourse.
Students can access it for free via sExpress (click here to place your order) or by appointment at UHS.
If you do not see appointments within 48 hours, please call the UHS General Medicine clinic at (617) 287-5660.
Flu Kits
Includes essentials for flu season such as thermometers, tissues, hand sanitizer, soup, and more.
Request at the UHS General Medicine Front Desk (Quinn Administration Building, 2nd Floor).
Menstrual Products
Free pads and tampons are available in the UHS Lobby and patient bathroom.
Narcan Kits
Free kits including Narcan, fentanyl and xylazine test strips, a CPR face shield, and overdose prevention information available for all UMass Boston community members.

Safer Sex Supplies
Condoms are available in the UHS Lobby and exam rooms.
sExpress is a free safer sex supply service for students on campus. Free resources include emergency contraception, external latex and latex-free condoms, flavored latex dental dams, personal lubricants, pregnancy tests, and educational materials. Click here to place your order!
- You will get an email when your envelope will be delivered to the Residence Halls or be available for pickup at UHS within 2 business days!
Sharps Containers
University Health Services can provide sharps containers for all students, staff, and faculty for personal use, which can be returned and replaced at UHS when full. Please stop by UHS during office hours for this service.
