Centers & Institutes
UMass Boston values the role played by our centers and institutes in teaching, research, and service to a variety of communities. Given the budget pressures the campus faces, however, the university must prioritize activities that directly support our educational mission such as student instruction, faculty hiring, and financial aid.
In consideration of both the financial realities facing the campus and our desire to support the centers and institutes, the provost established the Task Force on Centers and Institutes in late 2018. The task force was charged with reviewing the centers and institutes' mission types and potential funding sources and recommending measures that would help them become self-sufficient, in line with national best practices.
