2023 Marks Record Year for UMass Boston Research, Showcasing Expanding Impact
Fiscal year 2023 was a milestone for research at UMass Boston, underscoring the university's deepening commitment to innovation and discovery.

The year set new records for both research funding and expenditures, reflecting a decade-long upward trajectory and strategic focus on expanding the university's research enterprise.
In FY 2023, UMass Boston secured $78.2 million in research awards—representing a 16 percent increase over the past ten years. Research spending also saw significant growth, with expenditures reaching $63.1 million, a 22 percent growth.
FY 2023 Highlights:
- Research Awards: $78.2 million (up from $67.7 million in FY22)
- Research Expenditures: $63.1 million (up from $51.6 million in FY22)
- Core Research Facilities Revenue: $570,000 (up from $390,000 in FY22)
These achievements were driven by strategic investments in research infrastructure, support services, and administrative capacity.
